Atopic Dermatitis

Atopic dermatitis: eczema that begins in childhood. Atopic dermatitis is a genetically inherited variant of eczema and may be associated with asthma and seasonal allergies.

Atopic dermatitis in ethnic skin:

It is noted that ethnic people living in India, Asia and Africa have a lower incidence of atopic dermatitis. However, these conditions are on the rise when these same people move to the US and Europe. A controversial idea known as the “germ theory” suggests that exposure to numerous germs during early childhood strengthens the immune system and prevents against atopic dermatitis, asthma and allergies later on in life.
